pepparkakelandbild_karta.jpgIn the project Var Ligger Pepparkakeland? students from SFI (Swedish for immigrants) and students from high school (age 13-15) meet to discover how food sounds and music tastes. The form is workshops where the students meet to create food and music in a great fusion that later results in public show. The work is lead by the chef Eve Maltais (Head chef Drakamöllans Gårdshotell) and the musician Jonas Jonasson (Bob Hund/Bergman Rock/Sci-Fi Skane).

The project starts discussions about our relationship to food and music, which then leads to further talks and work. All students work together cooking and making music. Jonas Jonasson has also written the song ”Var Ligger Pepparkakeland?” which is being interpreted by guest musicians and students along the project.

The project was inaugerated by previous minister of culture Leif Pagrotsky in Tomelilla August 25th 2006. Thereafter the project has been to Landskrona in September 2006 with guest Carl-Martin Vikingsson (Svenska Akademien) and in Perstorp in April 2007 with guest Ebbot Lundberg (Soundtrack of our Lives).

During 2008-2009 we are mainly working in Klippan, Perstorp and Bromölla, three small towns in southern Sweden. Embassies have been opened in all three places. During the fall 2008 we have been working with students once a week in each place.

During the spring of 2009 we will host focused workshops for students, teachers and others. We are also collecting recipies along the project and by the end of it we’re hoping to release a cookbook.

The project is initiated and carried out by NEON in Brösarp in collaboration with Musik i Syd and with support by Allmänna Arvsfonden. NEON is an established scene for contemporary art and music that also does several youth projects and is run as an independant non profit organisation.
